Frequently asked questions

I contacted one of the providers about a listing and they told me the vacancy was gone. Why does it still say it's available on the website?

Sometimes Providers do not remove their listing or advise us when a property has been rented. If you email us the details we can follow up with the Provider and take the listing down if it is no longer available.

How do I reset my password?

If you have forgotten or lost your password, on the Home page, click on the "Forget Your Password?" link and follow the prompts. It is quick and easy.

I have been asked to send money but I have not seen the property yet, what should I do?

When looking for a rental property you should always exercise due diligence. You should never hand over or send/transfer money to anyone until you (or someone you can trust) have viewed the property, when you are signing a Tenancy Agreement (Lease) and when you are receiving keys for that property. If you feel that you are dealing with someone who is not legitimate you should contact us immediately.

How do I edit or close my listing?

You need to log in to view your listings. When you find the property you want to edit, click on the address and your listing will open.

At the top of the listing where the address is the heading you should see two links - Make Changes and Close. Click on the appropriate button.

Note: changes are not approved automatically. Please allow up to 48 hours for approval of your changes. This time-frame may be increased over a weekend or public holiday period.

What are students looking for?

Students usually seek out accommodation that is close to the University campus, or an area that has good access to public transport. Suburbs surrounding the campus are usually more popular, but some students do choose to live further away from campus if they have their own transport.

Price can be a big factor for students, so cheap accommodation is generally more popular. Properties that are considered to be expensive for the area might not generate many student enquiries.

What is not acceptable in a listing?

You should always remember that anti-discrimination laws prevent discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender or parental status.

We will not approve any discriminatory advertisements or those which may be offensive.

Information which indicates that you are looking for a partner will not be included in an advertisement.

If you would like any advice on the wording of your advertisement please contact us.

How do I advertise a property or vacant room?

You need to register as a provider first, then click 'Add a listing'. Once you have completed the form your listing will appear once we have approved it.

How long does it take for my listing to be approved?

Please allow up to 48 hours for your listing to be approved. You will receive an email from us when it has been done.

Note: on weekends and public holidays listings can take a bit longer before approved.

Does it cost anything for me to advertise on this site?

No, Housing Online is a free service provided by Residential & Campus Communities.
