Available short-term, but six-month lease or longer preferred.

Close to bus routes, shopping facilities (Cook Shops and Jamison Plaza), hospital (Calvary) and health services, AIS, UC, Belconnen Town Centre. ANU 6 kms.

All facilities in the house are available to share with the owner and two other residents (Ph. D. Candidates at ANU). Suit post-grad student or visiting staff member. Female friendly. Overseas students are welcome (past occupants, both men and women, have been from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, People's Republic of China and Australia). Owner is a retired astronomer and communications scientist who lives alone. The house has a lounge area with slow combustion wood fire in winter (complemented by ducted gas heating) opening onto a rear deck. Kitchen has large gas cooktop, electric oven, microwaves, separate refrigerators and pantry areas, recycled timber benches. The house is configured for economy, with leafy organic vegetable garden, composting bins and a philosophy of "comfortable thrift". A single shared bathroom and toilet requires some mindfulness on the part of guests for the needs of others. As a special privilege (but not an entitlement), the owner routinely cleans the bathroom and toilet, vacuums the common areas of the house etc, but guests are responsible for their own rooms, as well as their own food preparation, cooking and cleaning of dishes, receptacles and work areas; such as shared microwave oven, refrigerators, stove, sink and bench-space. Guests share wifi NBN (500GB/month, 24Mbps download).

The accommodation arrangement is an unwritten Occupancy Agreement, based upon trust and mutual consideration. This has worked well in the past, as it allows hassle-free coming and going according to people's changing needs. Suit a quiet and conscientious post-graduate student or visiting staff member.
